The Oakland Athletics Look To Do More Than Occupy The Basement This Season

If the Oakland Athletics are going to move forward, there needed to be a lot of changes. They had a pitiful 2009 baseball season and fans were not happy. While they will not be a favorite to get to the World Series this season, their fans have every reason to be excited about the building blocks that have been put into place and the product that will take the field in 2010.

Oakland has been one of the busier teams this off-season. There were no multi-team trades to steal headlines, but they did more than their fair share of free agency shopping over the winter. Was it enough to get back atop the division? Well, that remains to be seen. However, they should be a much better team than what they were last season.

The Recipe For The Yankees In 2010: Rinse And Repeat

While many teams are trying to figure out if they can even compete in 2010, the New York Yankees are looking to load the roster and get another ring. One of the most storied franchises in the history of baseball is back on top and they are not looking to give up the throne anytime soon. They will once again be favored in a loaded American League East, but teams will be gunning for them more than ever now.

There was not a team in baseball that was as good as the Yankees last year in the regular or post season. They ripped through the American League Playoffs like a hot knife through butter and then opened up a can of it on the Phillies in the World Series. Arod more than made up for any woes and actually got shortchanged in the ALCS for MVP.

Pitching for the Yankees is rarely a concern, but the last two years have been insane. Once again, Mr. Sabathia will take his turn every five days or so and he is backed up with a group of pitchers who all have 15 win potential. We can say this because they have all done it before. San Diego Padres Will Give Their Fans More To Cheer About This Season

The old saying that everyone starts out even on the first day of the season has never been truer than this season. While there were some dominating teams this year, a lot of players have changed uniforms and we very well may see the changing of the guard with the San Diego Padres in 2010.

This is not to say that San Diego is going to run away with the division; that is hardly the case. What we are saying is that with many of the losses that teams have seen and the gains that some of the bottom tier teams from last season are seeing, a team like San Diego can be in the picture if they play up to their potential all season long.

We know it all starts with starting pitching and for this team it is all about Chris Young. He will now be leaned on as the team Ace and last year’s number simply will not do. The Padres are going to need to see the Chris Young of 2006-2008 where he racked up 27 wins and an ERA right around 3.50. When he was dominating, he was striking out batters left and right. St. Louis Cardinals Are Out For Revenge In 2010

After an incredible regular season that resulted in 91 wins, St. Louis was sent packing by the LA Dodgers in three straight games. Many people had picked them to not only get past LA, but to make it all the way to the World Series. It is no wonder that the St. Louis Cardinals cannot wait for this season to start.

When people look at teams that are built for success, the Cardinals are always a team that you have to consider. They have great pitching, a fantastic bullpen and their offense has both speed and power. They can truly play every part of the game the way it was meant to be played. Long ball or small ball, they are going to be in the game.

The starting rotation is extremely impressive as any of their top 4 starters would probably be an Ace or number two on any team. How many rotations can claim that they have four pitchers that have won at least 15 games in a single season? What New York Mets Team Will Take The Field In 2010

When the season started last year, every expert in the game had the New York Mets giving the Phillies everything that they could handle. Even though the Phillies were the champs, they were still not picked to beat out the Mets for the division. Then the season started, Philly got off to a hot start and never looked back.

The Mets will once again be a contender for the East, but the competition is even tougher than it was last year. The Phillies now have Halladay in the fold and the Braves look pretty solid. However, the Mets are right there with both of these teams and if they keep it together, there is going to be some incredible baseball being played.

While many of the other teams were dropping and adding high priced free agents, the Mets decided to shore up what is in essence a very good team. There is little doubt that Santana is an absolute stud who needs nothing more than a couple of runs to get across the plate to have a legitimate shot at winning the game.  Read more...

Are Glory Days Ahead For The Atlanta Braves In 2010

The National League East is finally up to par with the American League East and over the last two seasons that has meant bad news for the Atlanta Braves. This once dominant team has slid back a few notches as the Philadelphia Phillies have taken over as the dominant team. Atlanta will look to get back on the throne and once again become dominant.

While the Hinske signing went overlooked by many, do not underestimate the value that this player will have to the success of this club. The 2002 Rookie of the Year will serve as the primary left handed bat off of the bench and will provide a very important leadership role in this clubhouse. Both his bat and experience will be worth a few wins.

Braves fans have to be looking forward to another big year from Matt Diaz. After only playing 43 games in 2008, he bounced back huge hitting .313 in 2009. He had his second best season in home runs and will look to have a career best this season. The Philadelphia Phillies Have Every Right To Think The Third Time Will Be A Charm

Philadelphia Phillies fans were treated to back to back incredible years by a franchise that had not been to the World Series but a few times in their entire history. They were so close to repeating that the NL Pennant was nothing more than an afterthought. The table is set yet again for another huge run into the post season.

While the Phillies were happy to get Cliff Lee at the end of the year in 2009, the player that they really wanted was Halladay. This is the true Ace that they had been longing for since the days of Curt Schilling and they managed to get him in a megadeal during the off-season. For financial reasons, they did not hand onto Cliff Lee, but they believe their starting rotation will more than do the job.

A lot of their success is going to depend on whether or not Cole Hamels can get past his difficulties from last season. One of the main reasons that the Phillies went after Lee was because Hamels was just flat out not doing his job as the team Ace. The Truth About Mark McGwire’s Revelation

Recently, Mark McGwire came out with an admission that many people were shocked to hear. He had taken steroids from 1989 through the end of his career, despite his unwillingness to speak on the issue during a congressional hearing five years ago.

Most baseball players are thought to have used steroids in order to pump up their offensive stats, thereby securing more valuable contracts in the process. In McGwire’s case, things were different. He simply wanted to recover from any injuries in less time than he’d otherwise be able to.

You may remember that the beginning of McGwire’s career was marked by many injuries that saw him missing the majority of some seasons as a result. His potential was never realized because of this, despite the fact that he averaged more home runs per at bat than any other player of his time.

What followed in the years to come was exactly what one would expect. He was healthier through the majority of the remainder of his career, and his offensive production was exceptional.
