Golf Fat Shot Cures: An Easy Tip To Cure That Fat Golf Shot
Written by Sidney Miller on November 20, 2009 – 5:26 pm -Finding a cure for your fat golf shot may be easier than you thought. The real problem lies in letting your back shoulder dip to the ground in the downswing. Without you realizing the impact of this small flaw, it can cause the club to hit the ground way too early. This often happens when you are really out to make a hard hit on the ball to gain some extra distance. This tends to cause a golfer to start the downswing with the hips in order to exert maximum pressure and impact on the ball when making the strike.
Alright, grab a club and let’s demonstrate what is happening. Perform your normal backswing but hold the club at the top. When a golfer tries to gain extra distance he will tend to move his hips horizontally towards the ball to gain momentum. This will also cause the back shoulder to dip and results in a fat golf shot.
Now that we know what causes the fat golf shot, let’s take a look at what we can do to correct it. Instead of trying to generate the power with your hips, focus on your arms and torso. We want to keep the hips as still as we can throughout the swing, without any horizontal movement.
When performing the backswing we want the leading arm (left arm if right handed) as straight as possible throughout the swing. At the top of the back swing the leading arm should be fully extended and parallel to the ground. Once again, keep the hips still. Practice this backswing until it becomes natural. The downswing will usually take care of itself as long as you keep your eye on the ball and your head still.
Try to keep the leading shoulder straight and down at all times. This will make sure that your golf swing is on the right plane. Never let your shoulders come up or move backwards. This would end up in a golf slice or a fat golf shot.
Correcting the fat golf shot doesn’t have to be a tough task. It is fairly easy once you break down the golf swing. You can just analyze the swing and see where the problem lies. To get more information on golf fat shot cures click on the links below:
