NBA Update for November ‘09
Written by Alex Thompson on November 20, 2009 – 2:01 pm -We’ve gone through several games of basketball and I’d like to take a look at some of the predictions people made about NBA teams. I happen to disagree with some of the proclamations that were made, and I’d like to explain why. Let’s determine the best NBA team.
As I write this, we’re only a couple of weeks into the season. Many would say that we haven’t seen enough basketball to make this determination, but I’m going to go out on a limb with a few proclamations that I do believe will hold true at the end of the season. Let’s see if I’m right.
As much as I believe that Shaquille O’Neal, Vince Carter, and Ron Artest are some incredibly talented players, I simply don’t think they’re the right fits for their teams. I think that each team is struggling to find its way with their new player, and hopefully they can adapt as the season progresses.
In Los Angeles, I think the Lakers were better off with Trevor Ariza than they were with Ron Artest. The conventional wisdom would say the Artest is the better player, but I disagree.
I don’t believe that Ron Artest wins his team games. He’s a dramatic distraction to a team that had incredible chemistry.
Then we have Shaq in Cleveland. My thoughts are the same. For direct evidence of this, look at the Suns before Shaq, the Suns during Shaq, and the Suns without him now. They went from elite to average, back to great this season. Cleveland is struggling.
Vince Carter hasn’t found his rhythm in Orlando, and I’m not convinced that he ever will. I believe that he’s a ball hog who did more bad for the Nets than good.
The only team that I believe got it right was Boston. Having acquired veteran All-Star Rasheed Wallace, I think he blends in perfectly with the Celtics, and I’m not surprised to see that they’ve won their first six games.
