Repeat For the Pittsburgh Steelers?

Things looked great for the Steelers entering the 2009 NFL season. Coming off an amazing Super Bowl victory, the team looked as strong as ever before, having maintained most of the pieces from last year’s team.

The Steelers are not showing their championship form when they overcame the Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII – in one of the greatest endings for a Super Bowl, ever. Teams that typically win or just make the Super Bowl the previous year, they often experience a letdown. Football is the hardest team sport to repeat as champion in.

While the Steelers are basically the same team from a year ago, things haven’t clicked just yet. It’s still early and things can easily change, but they don’t look like a championship team yet.

With a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals – a team the Steelers dominate – people are now questioning the Steelers and how far they can go in 09′. Are the Bengals really this good? Regardless, the Steelers can’t afford to drop one against them.

During this game, veteran and Pro Bowl defender Troy Polamalu went down with an injury that will leave him sidelined for an estimated 3-6 weeks. This is a blow to the Steelers, and perhaps more of a blow than anyone was anticipating.

The Steelers had a mediocre performance against the Chicago Bears in a loss – not championship-like. Despite the questions in the Steel City, there is still optimism.

During a disappointing week two loss to the Chicago Bears, the Pittsburgh Steelers looked the weakest that it’s looked in years. Without any forced fumbles, sacks, or INTs, the team was stepped on by the Bears.

Fortunately for the Steelers, Troy will be back for the second half of the season. His leadership out there will be missed, but once he returns, he’s the type of player to change the team.
