Formula D – Are You An Enthusiast?
Written by Owen Jones on July 17, 2010 – 11:47 am -A lot of people have never even heard of Formula D or Formula Drifting, which gives a much better clue of what this motor sport is really all about. In deed, like all competitive motor sports it takes a great deal of skill, because the vehicles concerned can be anything from 200 to 600 bhp.
The purpose is to manage your car while it slides sideways through a pre-set course in style. The more style the better, speed is secondary.
In a way, Formula D takes all the highlights out of normal racing and packs them into one competition. The US drifting scene takes the excitement a stage further though. They play two vehicles off against each other at the same time.
This makes it a great deal simpler to compare the abilities of the drivers and makes for some really exciting close driving – often the drivers’ vehicles are no more than inches apart.
This is electrifying stuff as the drivers control their cars through tremendous slides that would leave many drivers shaking. The nearest most drivers come to anywhere near this level of skidding is once a year on ice.

A Short History Of NASCAR
Written by Owen Jones on July 6, 2010 – 2:34 pm -You will doubtless have heard of NASCAR, but do you know what it means and how much do you know about it? In this short article I will give you a brief history of NASCAR.
NASCAR is an acronym for the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing. Amazingly, it was started as a family business in 1947 by Bill France Sr. and is still family owned and family managed. It is by far the biggest sanctioning business for stock car racing in the United States and the three largest racing series that it approves are: the Sprint Cup, the Nationwide Series and the Camping World Truck Series. In deed, NASCAR approves more than 1,500 races at more than a 100 race tracks in thirty-nine states.
For historical causes which we will go into later, NASCAR’s headquarters are in Florida, but its roots are firmly fixed in North Carolina, where it has no less than four regional offices. They are at Concord, Conover, Mooresville and Charlotte, where the vast majority of NASCAR teams are still located.

Royce Gracie In The UFC
Written by Connor Smith on July 3, 2010 – 9:37 am -The Ultimate Fighting Championship
Brainchild of Rorion Gracie and Art Davie, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was an eight-man single-elimination tournament with very few rules that would award $50,000 to the winner. The basic premise was to find out how different styles of martial arts would fare against each other. Art Davie placed ads in martial arts magazines and sent letters to anyone in any martial arts directory he could find to recruit competitors for the event. Among the takers were kickboxer Patrick Smith, Pancrase fighter Ken Shamrock, and Savate world champion Gerard Gordeau.
While Art Davie felt that Royce’s older brother Rickson Gracie, who was stronger and more skilled than Royce, was the obvious choice as the Jiu-Jitsu representative, Rorion Gracie chose the younger Royce to represent the family style.
In his first match, Royce defeated journeyman boxer Art Jimmerson. He tackled him to the ground using a baiana (morote-gari or double-leg) and obtained the dominant “mounted” position, also pinning Jimmerson’s left arm around the boxer’s own neck. Mounted and with only one free arm Jimmerson conceded defeat, mostly due to frustration rather than submission.

What Type Of Cars Are NASCAR Cars?
Written by Owen Jones on June 16, 2010 – 12:05 pm -Stock car racing was really born out of the desire of owners of customized stock (meaning: ‘off the sales lot’) cars to show off their vehicles, handimanship and driving skills. The need to ’soup up’ these stock cars came from the wish to escape the law enforcement agencies chasing them when they were running moonshine or put another way, bootlegging.
During Prohibition, a lot of moonshine whiskey was being made in remote areas of the Appalachians and in particular the Allegheny Mountains, from where it was taken by private carriers in their own stock cars often to the southern states. Many of these drivers tuned up their vehicles in order to have more chance of getting away.
When Prohibition was repealed in 1933, this bootlegging continued in order to avoid paying duty, but it gradually died out. However, the fire had already been lit and the drivers of these cars liked to race them in their free time for pride and reward, especially in the southern states and especially in North Carolina, where most of the stock car teams are still situated.

Paint Ball Gun Pistols – What Kinds Are There?
Written by Frederick Walton on June 4, 2010 – 2:02 pm -In the 90’s as new technology entered the paintball sport, paintball pistols became less sought after. These 12 gram co2 powered markers just weren’t the latest and greatest. Most players wanted semi-auto markers that could shoot more rounds with a bigger air source. Skip ahead to present time and you’ll find that paintball players have gotten their fix on the newer technology, and are looking for a trusty paintball pistol to act as a backup for their primary marker. The jump back into scenario/woods play has also helped rebirth life into the paintball pistol market.
Nowadays, paintball has evolved into a multi-caliber sport. By multi-caliber, I mean there are different sizes of projectiles being shot. Two rounds that are commonly found to be used by paintball pistols are .43 and .68 caliber rounds. Most paintball pistols use these rounds.
Different sized pistols appeal to different players. When deciding which caliber of pistol is for you, you must decide what you prefer the most. A good number of factors can help you decide which is best for you. For instance, some players like to be able to shoot as far as their primary marker can, so they will go for a .68 caliber paintball pistol. Others however, want their pistol to shoot a smaller caliber round to resemble the real deal more so. For others, it may be efficiency, as they want the most shots per 12 gram co2 cartridge. If that is the case then a .43 caliber paintball pistol is right for you.

Pump Paintball Guns – Why You Should Play Pump
Written by Garrett Maxwell on May 27, 2010 – 10:45 am -People who don’t play pump paintball ask this question a lot. A pump may be seen as a disadvantage, but there are several reasons why a player would choose to play with one.
Armed with a pump paintball gun, the player only can shoot as fast as he can pump, which isn’t very fast at all. Going against an electronic 15+ BPS gun, a pump is a huge disadvantage. Why would anyone want to play so disadvantaged? Let me give you a few reasons.
The most understood reason for playing pump, is to save money. Let’s face it, the sport of paintball is a luxury sport, like golf is. It is incredibly expensive! Many players choose to constantly chase the latest and greatest gear, from the fastest guns to the newest masks, they continuously are purchasing new gear. Instead of chasing the latest and greatest, playing pump simplifies everything. Forget getting upgrades (they aren’t needed), and forget buying the latest and greatest pump, because a pump is a pump. A thousand dollar pump has to be pumped the same way a $200 does. There are many solid pumps out there that will not only save you money, but will also save you time because they are dependable and simple in operation. Not only will you save money on gear, you will also save money on paintballs and air. You’ll be shooting much less, which means you’ll spend less on paint and air. This will let you be able to play more and play longer.

Stock Class Paintball Marker
Written by Jerry Manuel on May 15, 2010 – 5:20 pm -So you want to get into stock class play? It takes a special type of paintball gun, one that isn’t common on the paintball field. More importantly, its different, but for a good reason. See, a stock class paintball gun is a key part of a unique and very challenging part of paintball. A part few paintballers ever give a chance to participate in.
What makes a stock class paintball marker unique? A couple of stuff…
The most noticeable feature is the overall size of the marker. If you take a close look, you’ll see that a stock class paintball marker is missing two parts you often find on a normal paintball gun. These 2 parts are the hopper and the air tank.
A gun without a massive 68ci 4500 HPA air tank is one thing, but a marker without a hopper? Now that’s just a whole other level of crazy…
In place of where a hopper would be, is a 12 to 20 round feed tube, that rests horizontally on the top of the guns body. Most often the feed tube is only 12 rounds, which is 198 shy of what most paintballers are used to hauling.
