Written by John Lavender on September 2, 2010 – 10:17 am -

Are you wondering what sports betting is? The name is it’s literal meaning, it is simply betting on sports. There are many different ways that you can place wagers on different games and events, and it makes the process of watching live events in action that much more exciting. No wonder billions of dollars per year are wagered on the many sporting leagues throughout the world.

When it comes to sports, there are some people who can consistently pick out the winners of their favorite sports like basketball or football. There are also those who simply bet on teams because they like them. While this may work from time to time, betting on a team you like is not always the safest way to go.

For many place around the world including the United States, it is illegal to bet on sports. However, there are still some places like Las Vegas, Montana, Oregon, and other places that this law does not apply to.

To avoid any problems, make sure that sports betting is legal in your location before you start.

Should We Let Shoeless Joe Into Cooperstown?

Written by Andy Starr on August 15, 2010 – 6:37 am -

Should they lift his ban even after his death? If so will they let him into the hall of fame? So many questions surround this possibly misunderstood baseball legend. Shoeless Joe got his name from what is believed to a blister on his feet from a new pair of cleats. So he took them off and played in his socks throughout the ball game, resulting in Shoeless Joe Jackson. A man who just wanted to play the game of baseball and was banned from it.

Shoeless Joe has some very impressive stats over his- year career. He is known for playing with the White Sox, but played with a total of 3 other teams, having played with ith the Athletics, Naps, and Indians for half a season. He posted very good standard stats that should alone be hall of fame worthy.

Some of these numbers include a .356 career batting average, 785 RBIs, and 168 career triples. The power was low, but this came in an era where lower home run totals were more commonplace.

Well maybe not H.O.F. worthy from looking at those right away, but he seemingly hit for average. Now I’ll post his advanced numbers, which are pretty impressive.

Looking At The History Of Horse Racing

Written by Byron Jonas on August 7, 2010 – 8:32 am -

Millions of people all over the globe tune their television sets to the Kentucky Derby. The derby is a modernized version of a sport that was popular centuries ago. A history of horse racing can begin with a mention of the ancient pastime of chariot racing but that would not fully describe the way we look at horse racing today. These days, people do not travel to the Hippodrome to watch chariots being dragged along the track at full speed.

I am sure you have heard of Henry VIII, king of England in the early 16th century. He is probably best known for his many wives. But he also had plenty of horses. The king would send agents on missions to Italy, Spain and North Africa to bring back those areas’ finest horses. His new additions would then be raced against other nobles’ horses. It is from Henry the Eighth and his races from which the phrase “sport of kings” likely derived.

Two centuries later and across the Atlantic, we find ourselves in the English colony of America. Horse racing became a staple to American life, especially in Kentucky. In Kentucky, pretty much every major settlement had a section of land off the main road specifically set aside for the racing of horses. Furthermore, the famous statesman Henry Clay was the founder of one of Kentucky’s first jockey clubs.

Better Times For The Buffalo Bills

Written by Marc Freedman on July 29, 2010 – 1:57 pm -

The Buffalo Bills are an interesting team. With so much attention being focused on the New England Patriots and the new and improved New York Jets (not to mention the defending AFC East champion Miami Dolphins – oh yeah, remember them?), the Buffalo Bills are being overlooked.

Trent Edwards is still a quarterback looking to “find himself” and prove he is one of the top quarterbacks in the league.

Trent Edwards looked polished and composed as the team’s quarterback, and seems to be more of a legitimate, reliable option with each passing week. Having thrown for 230 yards with 21 completions in 31 attempts, his 2 TD passes on just one interception were enough to win the Bills the football game.

The Bills play in one of the toughest divisions in football, the AFC East. The New York Jets are off to a fast start and the New England Patriots have Tom Brady.

If the Buffalos Bills are going to make any noise they must be more consistent on offense. As of now, they are in the lower half of the league in total yards and passing yards.

Clear Improvements By The Detroit Lions

Written by Joseph Archibald on July 29, 2010 – 1:57 pm -

Many people thought it couldn’t be done — that is the dreaded 0-16 record the Lions suffered in 08′. Accumulating an 0-16 record was less likely than going 16-0, which the New England Patriots accomplished in 07′ just a year prior.

The Detroit Lions from 99′ — 08′ compiled an astonishing record of 48-112. If the Detroit Lions were in a European soccer league they would have been demoted to another level — or even disbanded the team and redistribute the players perhaps.

The most important position in football is the quarterback, the Lions are hoping QB Matthew Stafford will help the Lions reach a 8-8 or 7-9 record — which by Lions standards that would be a great season.

The offense of the Lions ranks in the middle of the leagues teams, the defense is among the lower half in all major categories. The division the Lions play in, The NFC North, doesn’t do them any good — the Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears are all improved from last season.

The Lions offense must not give away games and hand the opposing teams many turnovers. Rookie QB’s turn the ball over often throwing interceptions, Matthew Stafford must stay calm and make smart decisions, easier said the done obviously.

Are The Denver Broncos A Real Contender?

Written by Todd Liu on July 29, 2010 – 1:57 pm -

Wow! After a disappointing 2008 campaign and one of the worst defensive performances around, the Broncos were looking pretty dreadful. On top of this, their star quarterback, Jay Cutler, demanded a trade, and their star wide receiver, Brandon Marshall, refused to play.

The 2008 season was a disappointment – while the Broncos have started out well, their strength of schedule is one of the most difficult in the league. If the Broncos go 8-8 it will be a miracle. As good as the 09′ season started for the Broncos, it can sink just as fast.

Denver Broncos Coach McDaniel is the youngest coach in the NFL, and his lack of experience hasn’t seemed to matter so far. The Broncos have looked great through two weeks. Even Broncos fans weren’t happy with the new coach in town.

WR Brandon Marshall was very close to leaving the team as well. While Marshall may be immature to an extent, there is no denying his on-field ability. No coach wants to lose their best two players before the team even takes the field.

The Lincecum Vs. Carpenter Controversy

Written by Aaron Scott on July 26, 2010 – 11:45 am -

The 2009 National League Cy Young race is an interesting situation. There are at least two pitchers who make definitive cases for the coveted award, and choosing the winner will be a difficult decision for those forced to vote.

While some great pitching was pretty commonplace throughout the entire National League, the race really boils down to two pitchers. Guys like Matt Cain, Adam Wainwright, Jair Jurrjens, Johan Santana, Wandy Rodriguez, and others were absolutely great this season, with many of them having career years.

However, Tim Lincecum and Chris Carpenter both stole the show. Pitching their respective teams to winning records, both of these pitchers had some of the best pitching seasons in recent memory.

Looking at the stats doesn’t tell the whole story with either of these pitchers. That’s perhaps what makes this race even more difficult to call, as if it wasn’t already hard enough. It’s almost painful to deny either of these incredible pitchers of an award they deserve. Maybe they’ll somehow tie for the award.

As for Tim Lincecum, the Giants are once again a winning baseball team, thanks largely in part to his reliable presence as the team’s ace. He struck out more batters than anyone in the National League, had a handful of complete games, and the second best ERA in the National League.

International Horse Racing And Its Race Tracks

Written by Byron Jonas on July 21, 2010 – 8:00 am -

A great way to get people involved with others from all over the world to interact and to follow something together as one world and not as strangers or enemies could be through international horse racing. There are a multitude of international race tracks around the world and other organizations that deal with international racing. Some of which are listed below.

Dubai World Cup was started back in 1996. The reason it was built was so the Arabic countries could once again be part of the horse racing world. The opening of the Dubai track helped to put the United Arab Emirates on the Radar. An extremely high standard was set with the first race in 1996 as well as history being made by the American horse named Cigar, considered a wonder horse, won the first Dubai World Cup.

England, Scotland and Wales offer about 70 different race tracks for racing fans. One of the more famous courses would be where the Grand National or John Smith Grand National is held and that would be at the beautiful AinTree racecourse.

Who’s The Best Fantasy Basketball Player?

Written by Tracy Miller on July 10, 2010 – 11:24 am -

With the basketball season about to start, many fantasy basketball leagues have begun to form. Some are in the midst of drafting as we speak. If yours is coming up, I hope you should be lucky enough to end up with a top pick. If you are, there are some great options this year.

There are great players to choose from, there’s no doubt about that. However, I see how it can be a difficult decision, and I’d like to help you out a bit. Let’s take a look at the potential contenders at number one this year.

If you’re into the idea of getting an elite point guard, you’ll have to look no further than Chris Paul. No basketball player has been more effective than Paul during the last two years.

Paul’s well rounded game gives you stats that you’ll typically get out of no other point guard. The most assists in the NBA, the most steals in the NBA, and a point guard who shoots over 50% are all really hard to pass up on.

If you’re looking for someone bigger, there’s always LeBron James, thought by many to be the best ordinary basketball player. LeBron’s well-rounded style suits fantasy teams really well. No forward gets more assists than James does.
