Baseball Movies From The Last Three Decades That Are Classics

Written by Vincent Donaldson on August 11, 2010 – 1:03 pm -

Baseball holds a special place in the hearts of most Americans. It is the national past time of the United States, and has no doubt caught on in other parts of the world. Baseball has become wildly popular in The Caribbean, Central America, Japan as well as many other areas. Baseball films are no different.

Here are some of my favorite movies about baseball.

Released just last year, Sugar is a must see for any fan of baseball. This film gives a truthful look at the journey of a dominant player from the Dominican Republic, who has big dreams, but no clue of the journey he will have to go on to reach the Pros.

While the original Major League film set the precedent, Major League 3 remains my favorite in this series of baseball movies. This is one of Charlie Sheen’s best roles and any time this movie is on, I feel the need to watch it in its entirety.

Walter Mathau stars in the original Bad News Bears, which was recently remade with Billy Bob Thornton reprising the role of Mr Buttermaker, an alcoholic coach who takes on an unenthusiastic group of little league baseball players.

A Movie Fan’s Guide To The Most Realistic Sports Films In History

Written by Brian Mercer on July 27, 2010 – 11:09 am -

Over the years, there have been some incredible football movies. Football is a sport that requires teamwork, sacrifice and enormous dedication, and when a film can encompass all of these elements, and more, it usually results in a great and memorable movie.

In my opinion, here are the greatest football films of all time.

Any best of list would have to include 2009’s The Blind Side. Sandra Bullock may have won an Oscar, but the true hero in this story is no doubt is the left offensive tackle whom which the Tuohys housed. This is a must see film for the whole family.

The Program is a movie that shows audiences everything that the NCAA does not want us to see. Issues such as steroids, bribes, drugs, and covering up failed tests are all brought up in this movie, so it may not be the best film to watch with the family.

Friday Night Lights remains one of my favorite films, sports related or not. This film takes a look at high school football in Texas, where football runs through the blood of many communities. Players face the pressure of making it to the next level, and seeing a world beyond the turf.

What’s Gone Down In The 2010 National Basketball Association Western Conference Playoffs

Written by Arthur Stevens on June 29, 2010 – 10:16 am -

For the NBA Western Conference Playoffs, this has been a tumultuous year. While some series has been decided in four games and some in seven, most of these series have been exhilarating. If you haven’t been paying attention, here’s a brief analysis of what’s happened so far.

In the first round, the Los Angeles Lakers faced the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Laker’s coach Phil Jackson got this series off to a heated start by making cheap shots about the way that Thunder star Kevin Durant plays the game, insisting he lives at the foul line.

Being the defending champions, the Lakers earned the right to be confident going into the playoffs, but it would not be an easy path to the second round. The Thunder took the Lakers to 7 games, ultimately losing , but letting the world know that they will be a contender for years to come.

In another first round matchup the Denver Nuggets squared off against the Utah Jazz. The Nuggets were without Coach Karl, which may or may not be the reason they couldn’t pull it together. In the end, the Jazz beat the Nuggets in six games.

Key Moments From The 09-10 NBA Year

Written by Dave Fromdale on March 6, 2010 – 5:47 pm -

The plot in the world of basketball this season has been so twisted, so convoluted in terms of performances of some players as well as some of the news about particular players, it has made it an exciting game to follow.

In this article, I intend to look at both the good and the bad, the highlights and the lowlights of the 09 to 10 season.

Two teams seem to have appeared from nowhere and stand out due to the fact that last season they were nobodies but this season they have become very successful and are building themselves a decent reputation with every game they play.

The first of the two teams to mention is the Oklahoma City Thunder. No one imagined that they might become this successful in such a short space of time. The team can thank Kevin Durant for helping them to rise out so quickly from being one of the worst teams to being a successful team this season.

The Memphis Grizzlies may be an even bigger surprise. While people knew that the Thunder had the potential to be a good team, everyone had written off Memphis entering the season.

The Most Impressive Of The 09-10 NBA Rookies

Written by Aaron Harden on February 15, 2010 – 2:18 pm -

This season has shown us some really good NBA rookies who have definitely started out their careers on the right note. The norm is usually that it can be a lot of seasons down the road until a rookie will do really well, with a bumpy start and many things to learn about this league along the way.

This season, we’ve been fortunate enough to enjoy the presence of some exceptional rookies who have the poise and demeanor of veteran players. This bodes really well for their long term potential.

So let’s review some of them who are at the top of the list for the NBA rookie of the year right now. Here are the ones who have the best chance.

The most obvious choice thirty or sixty days ago might have been Brandon Jennings. He started the season extraordinarily well and really hit a high by scoring 55 points in a game in November.

The down side is that because Jennings has only been doing about 30% over this last month, he is not in the running at the present time.

NBA Update For November ‘09

Written by James Waltham on November 20, 2009 – 2:01 pm -

The basketball season has had some interesting twists so far and many people have been off with their initial predictions to say the least. The Cavs and Lakers aren’t dominating their opponents, and I think I know the reasons. Let’s take a look at the best teams in the league to see where they’re at right now.

As I write this, we’re only a couple of weeks into the season. Many would say that we haven’t seen enough basketball to make this determination, but I’m going to go out on a limb with a few proclamations that I do believe will hold true at the end of the season. Let’s see if I’m right.

All due respect to some of the players that I’m about to put down, but I’m simply stating my opinions here. I believe that a player can be great on paper, and possibly a great fit for certain teams, but there are three players who’ve all flocked to elite teams this season, and I believe that none of them are the types of players who win their teams games. In fact, I believe just the opposite.
