Getting Affordable And Compatible Equipment With A Snowboard Package
Written by Sean Prentice on July 24, 2010 – 4:22 am -Rental snowboarding equipment is fine when a person snowboards once or twice a year, however if someone is hoping to hit the slopes more than that they should really plan on investing in personal equipment. There are several reasons why snowboarders are better off with their own equipment rather than rental stuff. The biggest perk is using equipment is that all of the equipment, especially the boots, fits properly. Since snowboarding equipment is expensive, snowboarders should look into purchasing a snowboard package, which generally includes the board, bindings, and boots. The advantage with the packages is that they are usually less expensive than purchasing the same items individually.
When a person decides it’s time to purchase their own snowboarding equipment, the first thing they need to look at is the boots and the bindings. Before purchasing the boots, the snowboarder needs to consider what type of snowboarding they are going to be doing.
Snowboarder should never allow them to think that all snowboarding boots are the same. The biggest difference is that some boots are hard, and have a heel holding that is a hard shell whereas soft boots have a heel holding which is created by a soft bladder that fits inside of the boot. Soft boots are the most popular choice amongst snowboarders right now because they are flexible and are comfortable when the person is walking as well as when they are on their snowboard.

A Brief Look At Snowboarding
Written by Adriana Noton on March 15, 2010 – 5:39 am -Visitors to the Winter Olympics in Nagano Japan in 1998 were witnesses to the debut of snowboarding as an Olympic sport, it having been approved as such in 1994 by the International Olympic Committee. It is not surprising that it reached the world’s largest sports stage. Since the mid 1960s, an ever increasing number of snowboarders have taken to ski slopes around the world. Its popularity as a winter sport is perhaps best understood if you consider that in the mid 1980s snowboarding was allowed on less than ten percent of the ski areas in the United States; today it is permitted on over ninety-five percent.
Not far removed from the design of a skateboard or surfboard, the snowboard is designed to dash down a snow covered slope. Unlike skiing, this sport entails using a piece of equipment that looks like a short wide ski. Snowboarders’ boots are mounted in flexible bindings that are slightly perpendicular to the board, rather than facing forward as in a pair of skis.

Tips For Snowboarding Newbies
Written by Alex Beattie on January 12, 2010 – 4:10 pm -There are three snowboarding styles to choose from – alpine, freestyle and freeride. In freeride, you ride down a mountain, taking advantage of the landscape’s natural bumps and curves. Freestyle centers on tricks and special skills, with spins and jumps being good examples. Snowboarding alpine style is similar to skiing, in that it emphasizes building up speed and making sharp turns.
There are two different stances snowboarding stances that can be adopted. The most popular is the regular stance, in which the left foot goes in front of the right. This contrasts to the goofy stance, whereby your right foot goes in front of your left foot.
In contrast to skiers, who must shift their weight from left to right to left, snowboarders must shift their weight between their heel and their toe. When you shift your weight forward, you will go downhill and pick up more speed. By shifting your weight backward, the board slows down.
There are three different types of snowboards available: freeride, freestyle, and alpine boards. Each of them is constructed differently in terms of materials, shape, flex pattern, and size. The type of board you ride should correspond to your preferred style of snowboarding, your height, your shoe size and your weight.

Whats Hot In Downhill? Snowboarding For Sure!
Written by Clement Call on January 10, 2010 – 3:15 pm -Snowboarding is unique, and an American invented sport that developed during the nineteen sixties and seventies. The sport was influenced by things like skate boarding, surfing and downhill skiing of course. In the short time since the sport has developed its very own vernacular, its very own sub-culture and fashion, even classes of people or royalty within its sphere.
Early on, start up companies had produced things like the snurfer product lines. ( An item which was named from a combination of the two words skiing and surfing.) Initially, the manufacturers, inventors, and marketers of Snowboards, the likes of Mr. Jake Burton Carpenter, Mr. Chuck Barfoot, Mr. Tom Sims and others revolutionized production, the design of, and marketing them while building the industry itself as well as developing the sport. Snowboarding as a sport, literally compounded itself with furious and rapid growth in popularity at the time.
Snowboarders have developed their own language, their own disciplines, and more within the sub-culture. Even the fashion styles and trends involved are nursed from the Snowboarding enthusiasts themselves. The whole scene, while being very dominated by a under twenty-five year old demographic group was very comfortable with its cool, or very rebellious status in skiing circles and on the slopes as well. Though this has specifically been steering toward a change recently.

Snowboarding 101: A Guide to the Must-Have Gear
Written by Damian Papworth on December 11, 2009 – 1:21 pm -Beginners and advanced snowboarders alike have something in common: the need to dress properly for a day on the mountain. Even when it seems like a clear winter day with no possible need for extra layers, weather can blow in at any moment. If you’re on top of the mountain when it happens, you’re going to be glad you wore that sweater.
Planning for all possible conditions when getting dressed is an important part of snowboarding, and dressing in the right clothes also decreases the impact that a fall might have on you. Just remember to leave the cotton goods at home, and get ready to start layering.
You should avoid cotton like the plague because, unlike other synthetic materials or even wool, cotton absorbs water, a potentially dangerous trait for your clothing to have in the middle of a snowstorm when it’s freezing outside. Trekkers and professional skiers all know that cotton kills, and it’s no laughing matter! Don’t put it on.

Who Is Shaun White
Written by Kurt Naulaerts on November 24, 2009 – 5:11 pm -How closely do you watch the world of snowboarding? How closely do you watch the Olympics? If the answer to either of those questions is “closely”, then you probably know the name Shaun White. After all, he was only the United States gold medalist for the Men’s Half-pipe in 2006! It’d be pretty hard to miss that if you closely followed either the world of snowboarding, or the Olympics!
Shaun White was born September 3,’86, in San Diego California. He lived there for most of his life, although he now lives and works out of Carlsbad, California. His early life was fraught with hardship, as he was born with a congenital heart defect known as tetralogy of Fallot. Lucky for him, they caught it at an early age, and he had two cardiac surgeries before the age of five. Tetralogy of Fallot leaves a sixty percent survival rate if not caught by the age of four, so had they not caught it, it’s possible we wouldn’t be able to discuss Shaun White today. But they did, and he went on to become one of the most well known names in snowboarding.

A Snowboarding Prehistory Together With Cheap Snowboards and Snowboarding Accessories Locus
Written by Scott Plympton on November 18, 2009 – 7:13 am -In light of the many cheap snowboard deals rampant today, snowboards are a relatively recent innovation. Many people look back on the history of snowboarding in an attempt to discover precisely who invented the snowboard. Some people say it was Sherman Poppen with his “Snurfer” toy back in’65. Some people point to Dimitrije Milovich, who, in’71, patented a design for a snowboard that was based on modern surfboards. In fact, all of these people, and several more, contributed to the design of modern snowboards! It wasn’t all Burton, the house snowboards, Solomon snowboards or Lamar snowboards in the beginning.
It has been predicted it will overtake skiing and in many of the ski resorts, you’ll find more snowboarders than skiers. Snowboarders are a younger crowd and by mere attrition of the older folks, the snowboard crowd will eventually win their dominant position on the slopes.
Most people point to the Snurfer as the first modern unique and cheap snowboard. The Snurfer was invented by Sherman Poppen, as a cheap snowboard toy for his daughter. He took two skis, bound them together, tied a rope to the nose which allowed from some control, and called it done.
